BEHIND THE NAME

Behind the name

The name began as KitLivingstone, inspired by Kit Livingstone in Stephen R. Lawhead’s Bright Empires series. Wanting a distinct identity with a more pirate-like feel, and with his beard growing greyer, Kit made it his own: KitBeardstone.

Wordmarks

These transparent SVGs contain editable text. For the intended appearance, use Arial for the single-line name and Impact for the stacked name. Fonts are not embedded and the lettering is not outlined. If a font is unavailable, your app may substitute another.

The fox

A fox wearing a bear pelt: a nod to Renaissance faire garb. Kit is also a term for a young fox, adding another connection between the name and the character in the logo.

Background, not a logo fill

The full-color fox uses its original rust orange and dark brown; its orange is different from the wordmark orange. White and black logo variants use pure white and pure black. Keep orange and warm-white wordmarks on dark backgrounds. Arial carries the single-line name and navigation; Impact carries the stacked display name. Keep the original fox proportions intact.

Page openings use one horizontal main heading and one small, letter-spaced uppercase descriptive line directly beneath it. Let long headings wrap naturally on small screens. Keep meaningful section headings below the opening.

Lettering rules

  • Mixed-case wordmarks and display headings: Arial, with an italic lead at weight 400 and an upright emphasized word at weight 800. The lead is warm white (#F9F6F0); the emphasis is orange (#FF6600).
  • Stacked uppercase wordmarks: Impact at weight 900, with italic KIT above upright BEARDSTONE. KIT is warm white; BEARDSTONE is orange.
  • Terminal periods: use the opposite brand color. Orange words take a warm-white period; warm-white words take an orange period. Existing period-free assets remain period-free.
  • Heading sizes: page titles share a responsive 32–52 px scale, 1.12 line height, and 24 px bottom spacing. Editorial section headings use 24 px (22 px on narrow screens) with 1.25 line height. The decorative stacked homepage wordmark is a separate logo treatment. Long creator names may wrap to avoid clipping.
  • Where to use this: brand lettering and display headings. Keep body copy straightforward and preserve creators’ proper names and casing.

Weights describe the CSS/SVG settings. Font matching depends on the installed family: the verified Windows export resolved Arial weight 800 to Arial Black. Impact weight 900 and italic styling may be synthesized by the renderer.

Arial and Impact are supplied with applicable Windows and Microsoft products. They are licensed fonts, not open-source font downloads. Use an existing licensed installation or follow the licensing links on their official font pages. Font files are not distributed here. Microsoft’s font use and redistribution guidance explains the difference between using fonts in artwork and redistributing or hosting the font files.

For portable print or production artwork, open an SVG with the required licensed font installed, then convert its text to outlines. Font weights and italic styling may be synthesized by your design app.
